Getting around Angkor Temples and Siem Reap town

There are a number of ways of getting around Siem Reap and the Angkor Temples. You can choose between mini bus, taxi, tuk tuk, motor taxi or bicycle.

The prices for getting around Siem Reap vary depending on where you want to go and how long you want the transport for, but getting around the Angkor Temples tends to be more or less the same price for the mini tour, grand tour and the further away temples like Banteay Srey. The grand tour of the temples is normally the main tour that visitors take around the temples and this includes Angkor Wat, Bayon, Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm, Terrace of Elephants and a number of the smaller temples, but this is not usually all on the same day. The mini tour generally just means Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.

How you get around the temples is up to you, but taxis and tuk tuks are the best way to go unless you are in a group when you will need a mini bus to get around. A taxi can be welcoming in the hot season though as the heat can be intense and you will be glad of the air conditioning. You should also consider a taxi in the rainy season, as you may get wet in a tuk tuk if the rain decides to pour down. A tuk tuk is pleasant enough in high season though, because the weather in Siem Reab is generally very good for getting around by any type of transport.

Things to do in Siem Reap

1. Apsara dancing with buffet:

This is well worth seeing and there are a number of restaurants that do Apsara dancing along with a buffet style meal. The cost is around US$12.

2. Chong Kneas floating village:

Visit the floating Village on the Tonle Sap lake which is around 15km from town. The price per person varies depending on the boat and the length of time you want to visit.

3. Elephant ride:

Why not take an Elephant ride from the East Gate of Angkor Thom to Bayon Temple or maybe take the Elephant ride up Bakheng mountain.
